An Airbnb for the Birds

Let’s face it, Glen Ellen has way more than its share of airbnbs.  It’s not surprising that a quaint little village nestled amongst beautiful hills in the Sonoma Valley wine country would be a haven for these home-owner rentals.

Ann and I share our neighbors’ concern about the downside of this proliferation of airbnbs – late night loud parties, increased traffic, and parking issues.  So we hesitate to tell them that we have our own little airbnb operation, of sorts.

A typical evening at a Glen Ellen neighborhood Airbnb?

However, our airbnb, which would be more appropriately labeled an “Air B&B” or “Air Beverage and Bath” literally is for the birds.  Although we pretty much have been booked up during most of the summer, we haven’t seen an increase in car parking congestion in the neighborhood.  There has been, however, a noticeable increase in air traffic.

To appreciate our Air B&B you have to experience it first hand.   So as a modest gesture of giving, I have produced a sequel to my cinematographic masterpiece Where the Wild Things Are.  I call it Air B&B, The Movie.

And what could be a more appropriate musical accompaniment with uplifting lyrics for the video than Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds?”

Rise up this mornin’
Smiled with the risin’ sun
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin’ sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true
Saying’, (this is my message to you)

Singing’ don’t worry ’bout a thing
‘Cause every little thing gonna be alright
Singing’ don’t worry (don’t worry) ’bout a thing
‘Cause every little thing gonna be alright

Uplifting lyrics are much needed these days.

So, without further fanfare, I present Air B&B, The Movie (be sure to turn up the sound!):

  1. I’m impressed at your technical skills – to film the movie, put music to it, title it, and then list all the characters (with great names I might add)!!! Very well done. Loved the movie. Thanks for sharing.

  2. This is great!! Makes me want to change up our bird bath. Wonderful selection of birds and well put together. You’re amazing Andy!’

  3. Hi Andy, this is your seatmate from the Southwest flight to Oakland. Have just viewed your birdbath video and was amazed with the variety of birds that visited your little oasis. I think I have seen the Northern American Striped Cyclist species here in Idaho but with slightly different plumage ;-). I look forward to reading your other blogs and can’t wait to try some of the recipes posted. Hope the rest of your flight was uneventful and the landing smooth. Take care.

    1. Wow. Thanks for the very nice note. You’ve made my day! You’ll have to send me some pictures of N. American Striped Cyclist from Idaho. My guess is that their plumage is not nearly as attractive. Hope all is well with you and family and that the passport business continues to be rewarding.
