Those who are on our pre-blog email list are already aware of my proposed puzzle for today’s blog. For those who do not get that email, it went something like this:
What do the following things have in common (according to History.com) ?
- Premarital sex
- Graphic violence
- Child abuse
- Anti-semitism
- Incest
- Wicked mothers
I even threw in a couple of hints by including the above illustration of the two guys who are responsible for what these things have in common and by revealing that these things could come true if “you are young at heart” (according to Jimmy Durante).
Here’s the answer. All of the topics on the list can be found in the Brothers Grimm fairy tales. You can learn more about the sordid details in History.com’s The Dark Side of Grimm Fairy Tales.
Of course, all of this has made me rethink the meaning of those famous lyrics Ann brings up in her blog:
Fairy tales can come true
It can happen to you if you’re young at heart
Young at heart or not, I hope that this hasn’t ruined that fairy tale you’re wishing for.
